  • Refreshing ARK Inventory

Has anyone else dealt with this issue? When I log in and try to access any inventory (my own, dino or container) this load screen pops up and sticks me in a loop. It flashes occasionally and when that happens I'm able to X out, but that leads to a 006 failed transfer error. At that point, I my ping hits 255 and I'm unable to access anything; doors don't work, dinos dont move, it's like I'm no longer attached to the server.

A (somewhat) solution to this is to kill myself, and that seems to fix it UNTIL I access a beacon, transmitter or ob. Then it happens again. Im able to click through the flickering to transfer servers, but once that happens I need to kill myself to fix it again.

I'm the only one with this issue, however, when I do get the 006 error everyone else on the server crashes.

I've done a file validate, reinstall (with deleting the old game folder) and I'm not really sure what else I can try at this point. Any thoughts?

Small Edit: While making this post I left the game running, and it eventually crashed with an "Outgoing reliable buffer overflow" message. Where can I submit a support ticket w/Wildcard?? I'm actually unable to find it on their site. I dont think this is a host issue since im the only one on my server with this problem (until i try and transfer then its everyones problem...ha)

"Outgoing reliable buffer overflow" indicates one of three things, and none of them are entirely good:

The root cause has to do with the game capping the amount of RAM allocated to a player file. This is a CORE ARK thing, and isn't anything you can adjust without reverse engineering the game, learning Unreal Engine, and creating your own version of ARK. This is HARD CODED into the code, due to how ARK has their own official servers and they have to make sure nothing can cause those servers to all of a sudden crash due to a player running around with too much stuff.

As that solution is ridiculous, you'll want to find exactly which of the three possible things is causing your error and correct accordingly.

With what you're describing... it's probably the first or third option below:

1) Your character has a combination of too many learned engrams and inventory items. This commonly occurs with Admin players as they typically will have some of the more hidden engrams learned, and admin only items in their inventory. If this is the cause of this error there's a simple fix.

Use a mindwipe tonic and purge your inventory, and be more mindful of how many Engrams you're learning.

2) The inventory you're trying to access plus your character has a combination of too many learned engrams and inventory items. This can happen with anyone using a large scale storage mod, a very high weight limit dinosaur being slot capped and a player being slot capped. (ARK only shows 300 items in an NPC inventory or player inventory at a time.)

Use a mindwipe tonic and purge your inventory, possible look at changing your expanded storage mods, and be more mindful of how many Engrams you're learning.

3) Your personal player file on the server has become corrupted / bloated. This is just ARK being ARK. It's unfortunate, but old player files can eventually become corrupt like any other type of electronic data. If using a Mindwipe Tonic doesn't help then you may have to simply purge your survivor and start back at level 1.

As for support tickets with WildCard, the BEST you can do is report this already known bug to them, which they already know the cause for, with the HARD CODED ram cap in the game, and just note that there's one more player on an unofficial server affected by it.

Thank you for the detailed response, I am way out of my depth on this one. We don't use a very potent stacking mod nor do i use a lot of my engram points, so corrupted player file sounds most likely. I played around on single player, official and made a beach bob on one of my servers none of those have the same issue.

My only question is why the issue is somewhat solved after I kill my character, and only reappears once i access a beacon, ob or transmitter? The engrams/inventory dont change at that point, as i just spawn in some organic polymer, die, and collect my things. As with a lot of my play experiences 'ARK being ARK' suffices though.

I'm going to try disabling each of my mods and seeing if any of them are a culprit, but if I dont find any other solution ill delete my character and see if that does it. Either way I'll toss an update on here with what I find out.

Again thanks for the detailed response!

The survivor save file is comprised of several parts:

Tribe Data (Structures and Alliance Information)

Tame Data (Which Dinos will aggro on you or not.)

Inventory Data (Your personal Inventory and Engrams learned)

ARK Cloud / Cluster Cloud Data (The things that are uploaded into Obelisks and have been recently removed from an Obelisk)

It sounds like the portion with your Cloud data is what's damaged. Sadly you can't just fix a part of the file.

So before I deleted my character I wanted to try a couple more things just to try because again, I'm pretty out of my league with this stuff (though im learning a lot about the inner workings which are pretty neat, not gonna lie)

And the first thing I tried was moving our cluster to a new machine, which I don't normally do. The only time I moved was when we were adding our 3rd server and it ended up being on a different machine, so we moved to get them all hooked up. This was maybe 10 months or so ago.

And somehow that managed to fix whatever it was? I messed around last night after work on all 3 servers, opened up all sorts of containers and inventories and basically did a little stress test of sorts. I'm hitting extremely minor lag but I think that is from the reinstall and I still need to figure out what settings I had before.

Again thank you for the responses I learned a heckin lot. I'm going to keep this thread updated if something funky happens again but with fingers and toes crossed it looks like its all gravy somehow.

Thanks for the response!

I'll be keeping an eye on it as well, as your fix indicates that something I wasn't aware of was at play.
