  • Ark Harvest Settings?

Does anyone know if 310.27 changed the server configurations? We're getting a lot less resources when we harvest for some reason and we didn't change any of our configuration since the patch went through. Has anyone else experienced this?

Did you change your stat scaling on your toons or dinos through your ini?

I mainly ask as the last several updates have broken / crippled those settings.

And since the last patch was to "remove" easter, they may have damaged some of that stuff.

All changes I've made have been through the UI. Does that change the ini behind the scenes?

Update: I reset the Dino Harvesting Damage Multiplier to it's original value, and changed Harvest Amount Multiplier to be 4 (instead of 1).

This has reset dino harvesting to the same levels before the patch. The side effect is that manual harvesting is now 4x.

The hypothesis is that Wildcard's patch to remove the Easter 4x rates reduced core harvesting by 1/4 instead of just changing their own server configs.... and also somehow broke the Dino Harvesting Damage Multiplier.

Wouldn't put it past them to have something like that occur. Too many cooks in the kitchen and all that. The guy who was tasked to revert the change was probably not the one tasked to implement.

could also be the new setting "Clamp Resource Harvest Damage" that wasn't there before. Or at least that as far as i've seen. could be limiting how much resources people get if left on.

Clamping has been in ARK forever. It's to help prevent crashing on servers where admins place resource harvesting multipliers too high, the host here changed the setting default from off to on due to the huge increase in idiots who jack up their settings and wind up crashing their server with brontosaurus and the like. There's a pretty decent explanation I wrote up on the subject forever ago, that's used as the standard reply in the host's discord:

Basically, ARK determines how much stone you should get per damage done to a rock. ARK also determines how much damage a rock takes before it breaks.

So let's say a rock has 100 hit points. And let's say that ARK says you get 1-3 stone per 10 damage done. What that means, is every time you do 10 damage to a rock, ARK generates a random number from 1 to 3 to determine how much stone you get. Now let's say you have a pickaxe that deals exactly 10 damage per strike.

Every time you hit that rock, ARK decides how much stone to give you. 1, 2 or 3. So after 10 hits, you have somewhere between 10 and 30 stone.

Now let's think that you have a pickaxe that does 11 damage instead. After you hit the stone 9 times, you will have done 99 damage to the rock. You will have somewhere between 9 and 27 stone.

When you hit the stone one last time, ARK will do TWO calculations. Since at the last hit, you'll have done 110 total damage. Giving you somewhere between 11 and 33 stone in total.

IF you turn on Clamp Resource Harvest Damage, you'll actually still only get 10-30 stone, as the last hit will only register that last hitpoint.

And you're probably thinking, that's not too bad, so I get a bonus 3 stone sometimes...

And you would be right, if the only thing you do is carry a primitive metal pick that does 11 damage to 100 hp stones...

But let's say you have a Doedic that does 1000% damage, and your server has a 10x harvest multiplier.

And let's say the Doedic has a base damage of 91 towards stone. The Doedic swings its tail, and hits the stone for 9100 damage.

The ARK server Then does 910 individual calculations for generating a random number from 1-3. And then, because they decided to not follow logic, they repeat that same loop 10 more times, due to the harvest bonus.

Your Doedic then has the ARK server performing over 9000 calculations for one rock.

This causes the whole server to lag, rubber band, and in some cases crash.

Unless you turn on clamping, then your Doedic gets you somewhere between 100-300 stone. (because the Harvest multiplier will still apply.)
