Hi, I currently have an Ark server running on Ragnarok. If I wanted to switch maps by simply changing the map setting to The Island under the Basic tab, how would this play out? Will character level and unlocked engrams remain the same? Is there any way to transfer tames? Would progress such as builds on Ragnarok be saved? I went through the forum pages to find a similar post because I figured this would be a popular question but didn't find anything.

A few things:

1) It is as simple as that to switch maps.

2) Your character is tied to the "ARK Net" which saves things like character location. So simply switching the map, would strand your character on it's last known location.

3) Builds on Ragnarok will be saved for as long as you keep a backup of the map.

What you're going to want to do is multi fold, and this ordering is important:

4 a) First upload your character and any materials and dinosaurs you want to bring at an obelisk. 4 b) Second, after your server population has uploaded any stuff they want to bring, make a backup of the Ragnarok server. I personally recommend a manual backup on the backups tab.

4 c) Do a server save. I know this sounds weird as you just made a backup, but trust me on this part. It makes no sense, but ARK is ARK and can be vengeful. 4 d) Stop the server. 4 e) Switch the map. 4 f) Start the server.

From that point on, after step (4 f) is completed, when a prior player joins your server for the first time, they'll be able to download their survivor instead of making a new character.

The uploaded characters, dinosaurs and materials will eventually self delete based upon your expiration settings on your server settings. You may want to adjust those settings prior to doing any of the above. Plan accordingly.
