  • 7D2D - Setting up a custom map

I have a completely fresh map that was generated with the current Alpha19.1 (b8) 7D2D client. I am attempting to setup this map within the server by moving it in via FTP, but can't get the server to recognize it. Which directory should the save file be located?

Alternatively, I do have the seed or the map and I could generate the map using the server, but after the server loaded fully, it cannot be found when searching within the client, nor when attempting to join directly with the IP.

When attempting to create the map with the server, I did the following steps: Set the "Server Map" to "RWG" Set the "World Gen Seed" to the appropriate seed (attempted the numerical variant [I no longer have it, but can retrieve it] and the word variant ["ClumsiestAbeles"]) Set the "World Gen Size" to 8192 (the intended size of this particular seed)

I figured out the problem. I was putting the world file in the wrong location.

I was placing the world file at this location: .../7daysserver/Save/

The correct location is: .../7daysserver/Data/Worlds/[Place world here]

I placed the world in the correct location and reapplied the settings that I mentioned in my last post. Problem solved.

NOTE: I was still unable to get world generation working within the server, but generating the world on the client and migrating to the server is functioning well enough.

Yep. To add to this:

Since Alpha 16 7D2D requires a graphics card of some power to readily generate a random map. There's a program called NitroGen that does excellent work on making the map file.

But as most server hosts don't have beefy graphics cards (Why would they, as most servers are a giant command line terminal system with a limited UI) it means that The Fun Pimps have once again indicated they fully intend for the game to be Single Player Survival with Multiplayer tacked on to make money.
