(Crawling out of my ESO cave for a brief second.)
Genesis 2 launched late, we're not surprised at that. In fact, we all expected it. And, as much of the prior predictions have come true, that's all been hashed out.
This is what we have discovered so far though:
It's been discovered that Genesis 2's base server requirements are NOT what was advertised by WildCard.
Servers are requiring above and beyond the 12GB of RAM that the standard 60 slot server covers.
As such, if you're attempting to run Genesis 2, in it's CURRENT unoptimized state (thanks WildCard) then you will need to have a server plan that supports unlimited RAM, as the base server plan here is capped at 12GB of RAM.
This is due to the cost the host has to pay for the hardware.
Let me repeat.
The cost the host has to pay, in order to keep the lights on, is factored in when they stand up a server for your player base. Those payments are factored in before they set their rates. It USED to be $14 a month for 12GB, but due to things like inflation, rental fees, etc, it was raised to $16.
This is how economics works.
If you paid $1 for 4 quarters, you wouldn't turn around and sell each of those quarters for $0.20 each, would you?
In fact, a -LOT- of hosting companies right now, from what i'm seeing in various discords, forums, and email chains are indicating they will be increasing the cost of their BASE plans to compensate for the extra resource usage. I'm hoping that won't happne here, and we'll maybe see a third option for servers pop up, something between 60 and 250 slot. But even then, the 13GB being used right now on Genesis 2 is for 0 mods and 0 players, I can only imagine what what it will be like with 60 players and 10-12GB of mods.
And I do mean that.
Steam is a piece of garbage for me right now, I won't be playing this game till Monday. So much like Batman in the third movie, I can only imagine the fire right now.
