  • Really bad lagg issues on Gen2

So im running Gen2 with very few mods yet for some reason the server keeps having bad lag skips. I have about 4GB in mods total (23).

I also have the 32$ server because it said I needed it in order to even run Gen2. Im also the only one on the server. Any fix for this? Maybe moving the hosting location of the server?

Generally, rubberbanding/lag skipping is caused by ARK's large software chokepoint of too many CPU commands at the same time. And CPU for an ARK server boils down to one truth: Anything that moves, shits, eats, heats, freezes, breathes, breeds, feeds, lights or sorts, is considered an "active" component, and as such adds CPU usage for each spawned thing that does so.

Gen2 is also well known as the least optimized officail map for ARK, (which is saying something as that includes Crystal Isles) and is considered by a large swath of the admin community to be upstaged by some very immature mod maps. Most players find on Gen2 a few things are required to keep Gen2 decently playable for any extended period on a persistant server.

1) Dino Spawn Count should be no higher than .9, with some "in the know" stating WildCard's Official server is dynamically switching from .8 to .9 throughout the day based upon player count.

2) Daily dino wipes are a MUST for Gen2. There's some reports that the on-demand mission spawns do not properly cleanup upon completion, and are put into an off map point similar to boss arenas.

3) Breeding needs to be monitored pretty heavily, as an unleashed breeding program will lead to an overpopulation of uncalimed dinos, and due to the nature of many holes and collision issue still being found in Gen2, many of those unclaimed baby dinos might wind up in the undermap. And as they're not player owned, the undermesh mechanics will not remove them.

If you're having issues and have worked towards resolving the Gen2 specific issues, then you're most likely looking at standard Server FPS CPU management at that point.
