  • Rubber Banding/Lag in Ark Server

Hey!

So, I've had this happen on two separate ArkServers Ark... servers... anywho, every couple of minutes the server seems to "rubber band". It isn't just players, but everything. It's like mini 30-second roll backs constantly. It's mostly playable still but depending on where you are, it has caused some players deaths.

For details:

- happens no matter graphics settings

- happens with 1 player online, or 8+

- happens in every location

- there is a measurable pattern so you know when to sort of expect it

Servers have:

- mods, one 26 and one 16, still happens

- password protected

- usually low-ish ping

I've seen other server hosts run the same mods and they don't seem to experience this issue (at least not as prevalently as we do), so I'm not fully convinced that it is the issue.

Any clue if there is a setting(s) I could disable/enable to help? Want to ensure the players have the best experience they can.

Rubberbanding is caused by high CPU usage typically, which is caused typically by a high active entity count.

The first two things to checn would therefore be your CPU Usage and your entity counts.

You'll have to forgive me, but entity counts as in players/dinosaurs correct? We're definitely into the server at this point so there are a LOT of tames amongst the tribes.

I checked my own CPU and I'm running everything A-okay and still have the issue, and it isn't isolated, it's everyone on the server. Did you mean personal CPU?

The server CPU. You can see that in your Charts tab.

And entity counts you can see while logged in by using "setcheatplayer true"

ARK's server code can only handle a combination of around 30k passive entities / 5k active entities before it has to starting pending server functions, which is what causes lag / rubberbanding.

Thanks so much, Synchro. I'll keep an eye on those things. :)
