Hi
Any idea if you would host Palworld servers?
8 million copies sold in just under 2 weeks with 2 million concurrent players. Need me to say more?
Normal disclaimer: I'm a volunteer, and not an employee, my statements are opinion, but based largely on educated fact and informaiton provided over the 8+ years I've been a customer and sponsored streamer from this comapny.
Well, considering 2 weeks is still considered a launch period in the current gaming cycle, yeah.
One of the things that makes this host amazing is the prices. One of the things that the prices for this host cause is razor thin profit margins. Due to that, this host has to consider those three things I listed above.
#1) Yes, this server absolutely supports Linux, which is great, as this host isn't going to go out suddenly and buy a large pool of Windows, XBox, PlayStation or Nintendo SwitchLicenses to host servers.
#2) Is the game popular long term? That's unknown. We're still barely in the first 14 days, let alone going the distance beyond 30. Add to that the very public statement made by Nintendo regarding looking into intellectual property infringement, then it may not last the month as there may be a cease and desist issued soon. ESPECIALLY if people keep saying shit like "I'm can't be bothered to play ScarVi because I'm too busy breeding in PalWorld." And the truth is, if the game's not going to be around long enough with a high enough player base, then it's not worth it for the host here to get a support specialist for the game.
#3) And the part of #2 is why we also have #3. If the host here developes a front end, creates the mod portal and settings editor, and then the game gets shelved, the developer here (which is just one guy.) is out a healthy chunk of resources with nothing to show for it. And in the Survival Crafting genre, that happens A LOOOT. Like a whole lot. Don't get me wrong, as a sponsored streamer for this service, and someone who's clocked in a few hundred hours on the game already, I'd LOVE for this provider to start hosting PalWorld, would mean I'd get a free server, and my videos would direct traffic here. But, this host needs it to pass those three thresholds. Otherwise it's just as useful as the other overhyped survival crafting games. And those are numerous. The standouts just over the time this host has been around:
Conan Exiles, came out this time of year in 2017. Peaked at 55k, didn't support Linux natively, then proceeded to die off in less than 30 days.
Or the Forest in 2018. Peaked at 75k, but released at only 25k, and now other than the holidays can't break 10k.
Or Atlas in 2019. Peaked at 55k, and then half that in 30 days, then died before this host could finalize their panel plugin.
Valheim, which is the last game this host provider has developed for, released in 2021, has abysmal mod support, but routinely hits above 40k daily.
Or Icarus. Technically released December 2021, but peaked at 52K in January 2022. Doesn't even break 5k.
Later in 2022, Raft hit the scene. Peaked at just over 100K, now passes 11k-ish.
Or Sons of the Forest, came out this time last year peaked at 400k, now not able to pass 10k reliably on a good day.
So yeah, you need to say a LOT more than "This game is popular, and I want to play it and don't want to pay what's considered a market price for a server with another host company."
But seriously, fingers crossed, cause yanno, those Fenglopes aren't gonna breed themselves. >.>
